Responsibilities
- Create detailed plans and designs for outdoor copper and fiber network facilities, including aerial, underground, and conduit installations.
- Generate and evaluate engineering schematics, loop loss analyses, and service area configurations.
- Perform on-site assessments of poles, conduits, and subsurface infrastructure to inform engineering decisions.
- Establish project cost estimates, track expenditures, and perform site inspections to ensure quality standards.
- Assemble and file permit applications with local, state, and federal agencies such as townships, counties, DNR, railroads, and pipeline operators.
- Verify that all infrastructure designs comply with applicable permitting rules and engineering codes.
- Engage with government and municipal representatives to align on roadway and infrastructure projects, including travel as needed.
- Work with other utility providers to coordinate relocations and prevent scheduling conflicts or delays.
- Provide engineering support for service requests, neighborhood expansions, roadway modifications, and fiber deployments to multi-dwelling units.
- Maintain and update records in FROGS (CAD), Varasset, and SiteTracker systems as required.
- Manage relationships with subcontractors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Support make-ready tasks and joint-use coordination for company-owned utility poles.
- Perform field surveys, assist in public utility commission complaint reviews, and develop capital improvement projects such as cell tower builds or network repairs.
- Respond to damage reports, manage cable inventory updates, and fulfill network service adjustments.
- Keep accurate records, revise engineering documentation, and process internal departmental paperwork.
- Produce written communications, technical reports, and engineering documentation as needed.
