Responsibilities
- Design and plan aerial, buried, and conduit-based copper and fiber outside plant facilities.
- Create and evaluate engineering drawings, loop loss analyses, and switch serving area layouts.
- Perform field surveys of poles, conduits, and underground infrastructure to inform design plans.
- Establish project budgets, track expenditures, and conduct site inspections to ensure quality.
- Assemble and submit permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies including townships, counties, DNR, railroads, and pipeline operators.
- Ensure all designs comply with permitting requirements and engineering standards.
- Engage with municipal and government representatives to align on road construction projects; travel is required with mileage reimbursement.
- Coordinate with other utility providers to manage relocations, prevent conflicts, and avoid delays.
- Support service requests, residential expansions, roadway modifications, dark fiber deployments in multi-dwelling units, and similar initiatives.
- Maintain and update records in FROGS (CAD), Varasset, and SiteTracker systems as needed.
- Work with third-party contractors to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Assist in make-ready tasks and manage joint-use agreements for company-owned utility poles.
- Conduct site assessments, support public utilities commission complaint investigations, and develop capital improvement projects such as cell tower installations or plant repairs.
- Respond to damage reports, manage cable count updates, and fulfill other network maintenance needs.
- Keep accurate records, update engineering documentation, and process internal paperwork.
- Prepare written communications, reports, and technical support materials.
