BAE Systems Intelligence & Security is hiring an Operations Engineer

The Operations Engineer plays a key technical role in supporting PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) assessments across a wide range of industrial equipment. This includes workshop machinery, mobile plant such as forklift trucks and mobile work equipment platforms, cranes, electric hoists, roller shutter doors, cantilever gates, and specialized systems like radiological or robotic units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical expertise to support the execution and documentation of PUWER inspections for various equipment types
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, engineering standards, and the Machinery Directive
  • Provide clear, consistent guidance and governance to site managers on the safe and legal use of work equipment
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications to assess equipment suitability and safety
  • Support compliance across bespoke and non-standard development systems where standard assessments may not apply

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have hands-on experience in an electrical or mechanical capacity within a machining or industrial setting. The ability to read and interpret technical documentation is essential. While not mandatory, progress toward NEBOSH certification, a maintenance background, or prior PUWER experience is highly advantageous. Familiarity with engineering standards and a background in safety, health, and environment (SHE) practices will support success in this role.
