The University of Chicago's Department of Neurological Surgery is looking for an Operations Coordinator to provide operational and administrative support. You will manage communications, educational programs, academic affairs, and departmental systems under the direction of the Executive Administrator, contributing to a department devoted to patient care, research, and teaching.
What You'll Do
- Provide high-level technical and administrative support to Neurological Surgery faculty members for diverse activities.
- Develop and implement systems to organize, communicate, and manage key priorities and projects on behalf of faculty.
- Research and develop internal and external communications including presentations, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Manage Department communications, including the development of newsletters and websites for targeted audiences.
- Compile, produce, and disseminate departmental information and reports.
- Create, write, edit, and post articles, news, and program summaries to website or social media platforms.
- Participate in administrative aspects of faculty recruitment, hiring, reappointment, and promotions workflow, serving as a medical staff office liaison.
- Coordinate special projects, functions, and events, including large-scale complex events involving multiple parties and foreign visitors.
- Manage continuing medical education (CME) courses, including completing applications and coordinating pre- and post-event planning.
- Participate in process and performance improvement by analyzing and enhancing existing processes.
- Assist with training and orienting staff as needed.
- Assist in maintaining accurate scheduling of physicians on call.
- Participate in overseeing and maintaining the physical office space, ordering equipment repairs, upgrades, and office supplies.
- Create purchase orders and process invoices for payment against purchase orders or general expense reimbursement.
- Assist with the development and management of continuing education programs.
- Assist with the management of GME training programs and medical student rotations.
- Assist monitoring finances for the clinical section, providing updates and ensuring spending is within budget.
- May act as a liaison between the section and other University departments.
What We're Looking For
- College or university degree in a related field.
- Knowledge and skills developed through less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree.
- Background in a healthcare or academic medical environment, including knowledge in areas of patient advocacy, medical terminology, access, and billing/collections.

Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $26.44 - $33.65 per hour.
