Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) is seeking an Operating Engineer S2 to oversee all MEP-related functions for critical facilities maintenance. In this onsite role based in Houston, TX, you will be the key technical expert responsible for the Mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), Electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, switch gears), and Plumbing systems. Your focus will be on analyzing system operations, performing repairs, and ensuring strict adherence to critical facility protocols.
What You'll Do
- Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of problems or malfunctions, and take corrective action.
- Adjust and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, ventilating and hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, and filters.
- Install and repair plumbing, piping, and tubing; replace seals on pumps.
- Perform fire and life safety system maintenance.
- Wire single and three phase motors; run conduit; pull wiring to machinery; replace bearings in motors.
- Install and rebuild pumps, motors, air compressors, and heat exchangers.
- Assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, switching, and motor controls.
- Operate and maintain critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, chillers, and critical air conditioning units.
- Monitor operation, repair, and maintain refrigeration, water cooling, air conditioning, boilers, heating, ventilating, hot water equipment, pumps, valves, piping, and filters.
- Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
- Oversee the activities of contractors working within the building.
- Keep records of building rounds, readings, engineering logs, and data sheets.
- Provide advance training and notification to contractors regarding the building’s critical functions.
- Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures.
- Ensure the Critical Facility Work Authorization (CWA) process is well-understood and adhered to.
- Ensure strict adherence to Critical Awareness Process, Technical Bulletins, and established engineering guidelines.
- Perform additional job duties as requested.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to work independently or in a small group setting.
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
Nice to Have
- Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
- Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC’s (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment).
- Licensed Journeyman Electrician familiar with Medium Voltage Industrial design builds.
- Hands-on experience in a data center or critical facility, including UPS Systems, emergency generators, and switch-gears.
