Colorado Outward Bound School (COBS) is hiring an On-Call Coordinator to support our Rocky Mountain Program (RMP). In this critical role, you will manage non-urgent field communications, mentor staff in the field, and ensure accurate information flow. While on duty, you will also provide high-level customer service to families via the RMP Parent Phone.
What You'll Do
- Receive and address calls from the field concerning medical issues, injuries, behavioral dynamics, itinerary changes, weather, and logistical needs.
- Provide clear, effective, and timely communication with instructors, course directors, supervisors, and student services.
- Coach and mentor field staff on handling in-field issues.
- Support overall course planning by facilitating itinerary changes, understanding permit impacts, and updating key documents.
- Work closely with the RMP Logistics Department to prioritize and respond to logistical requests.
- Gather and record detailed information promptly.
- Arrange and coordinate call-back times as appropriate.
- Serve as a communication conduit between field staff, program leadership, families, and scholarship sponsors.
- Arrange physician visits for students.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is completed and uploaded, such as SOAP notes and health care provider forms.
- Provide consistent and professional communication with students’ families during courses.
- Assist Course Supervisors with Incident Report data entry.
- Advise and assist in student care during non-emergent evacuations and early departures.
- Become familiar with and reference COBS’ Staff Manual, Field Policies and Procedures, CAMPS, and CAGS.
- Follow and uphold all Colorado Outward Bound School policies and procedures.
- Complete additional program administrative tasks and support as requested.
What We're Looking For
- Familiarity and experience working with youth and managing sensitive motivational and behavioral dynamics.
- Minimum Wilderness First Responder certification.
- Youth Mental Health First Aid training.
Nice to Have
- A minimum of two years instructing and field leadership experience with a wilderness expeditionary organization.
Team & Environment
This role reports to the RMP APD of Safety & Partnerships, working closely with Program Managers and Course Directors.
