Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the mine medical team to uphold high standards in occupational health, trauma care, and emergency response.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with mandatory health regulations, legal requirements, and established best practices.
- Develop and refine the Medical Emergency Response Plan, including clinical protocols, equipment needs, and medical supply inventory.
- Provide clinical care for unscheduled patient visits and urgent cases within the occupational health unit.
- Offer expert medical guidance to supervisors and HR on sick leave, work fitness, and rehabilitation options.
- Work with HR and management to manage employee health cases, including functional evaluations, work limitations, and reassignment.
- Support the creation and execution of structured return-to-work initiatives.
- Perform organizational medical evaluations such as pre-employment, safety-critical, site access, altitude, and exit exams.
- Evaluate work-related and non-work-related illnesses or injuries and produce evidence-based clinical reports for HR and management.
- Advise the Section Manager: Occupational Health & Hygiene on workplace health risks and patterns in health screening results.
- Supervise the implementation of health screening and legally required health surveillance programs to confirm employee fitness and regulatory compliance.
- Review health screening data to detect emerging health trends and work with the Section Manager on focused interventions.
- Maintain and update Patient Group Directives (PGDs) to ensure safe and compliant clinical operations.
- Collaborate with the mental health counselor on employee referrals, case coordination, and integrated mental health support.
- Promote a culture of wellness and contribute to organizational strategies that enhance psychological well-being.
- Drive the adoption and alignment of occupational health policies, procedures, and group-wide standards.
- Help strengthen the occupational health team’s capabilities and advance a zero-harm safety culture.
Responsibilities

- Develop and continuously improve the Medical Emergency Response Plan including clinical protocols, equipment requirements and emergency medical stock.
- Provide clinical support for unplanned walk ins and urgent presentations within the Occupational Health service.
- Deliver expert medical advice to line managers and HR on sickness absence, fitness for work and rehabilitation pathways.
- Partner with HR and line managers to ensure effective case management including functional assessments, work restrictions and alternative duties.
- Support the design and delivery of structured return-to-work programmes.
- Conduct organisational medical assessments including pre-employment, safety critical, site safety, altitude and exit medicals.
- Assess work-related and non-work-related illnesses or injury and provide clear evidence based clinical reports for HR and line managers.
- Advice the Section Manager: Occupational Health & Hygiene on health hazards and trends in health screening data.
- Oversee the delivery of health screening and statutory health surveillance programmes to ensure employee fitness for work and compliance with legislation.
- Analyse health screening outcomes to identify emerging trends and collaborate with Section Manager: Occupational Health & Hygiene on targeted interventions.
- Maintain and develop Patient Group Directives (PGDs) to support safe and compliant clinical practice.
- Collaborate with the Counsellor on referrals, case management and integrated support for employees experiencing mental health concerns.
- Promote the culture of wellbeing and contribute to organisational strategies that support psychological health.
- Facilitate the implementation and integration of occupational health policies, procedures and group standards.
