Nurses are central to the delivery of frontline medical care in humanitarian crises. In this role, you will deliver essential health services, guide local nursing teams, and help manage clinical operations in settings with limited resources. Your work will directly impact patient outcomes during emergencies, disease outbreaks, and long-term health interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and organize clinical activities focused on primary healthcare delivery
- Support immunization drives, malnutrition treatment, epidemic response, and community health outreach
- Train, supervise, and evaluate local nursing staff to ensure quality care
- Track, interpret, and communicate medical data to inform program decisions
- Anticipate supply requirements and oversee the use of medical inventory
Qualifications and Experience
You must hold a recognized nursing degree (RN with BSN, ASN, or NP qualification) and a current license. Candidates should have at least three years of professional experience, including six months of recent hands-on clinical work. Supervisory experience is required, along with field experience in low-resource or humanitarian settings.
Additional training in public health, tropical medicine, or infectious diseases is necessary. Experience in areas such as emergency care, pediatrics, HIV/AIDS, TB, nutrition, or infection control is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is expected.
Working Conditions
Assignments last between 9 and 12 months and take place across diverse locations—from rural clinics and mobile units to refugee camps and urban health centers. Conditions are often austere, with long hours and limited infrastructure. Flexibility and resilience are critical.
Values and Principles
Work is guided by medical ethics, neutrality, and impartiality. You will uphold principles of diversity, inclusion, and solidarity, advocating for patients and communities affected by crisis. The organization actively promotes equal opportunity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected statuses.
Compensation and Development
Staff are employed with a salary and benefits package. Opportunities exist for career progression across clinical, operational, and leadership roles. Ongoing training supports professional growth in humanitarian medicine, and multiple field assignments are possible.
