Duke University is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to serve as a Team Leader within the Center for Advanced Practice (CAP) and Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP). In this dual-role position, you will provide leadership and support to fellow APPs while delivering direct patient care within the Duke Specialty Infusion Center (DSIC) under the supervision of DSIC Medical Directors.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership and support to Advanced Practice Providers, fostering clinical excellence, quality outcomes, professional development, and collaboration.
- Deliver direct patient care within the Duke Specialty Infusion Center, including patient triage, performing physical examinations, and collecting clinical data.
- Perform necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of practice of the supervising physician.
- Conduct patient histories, monitor patient progress, order medications, laboratory studies, and diagnostic procedures.
- Prescribe appropriate interventions and medications (with the exception of chemotherapy and IMID therapy per Duke policy).
- Document the patient’s course of treatment, including Histories/Physicals/Admissions, Problem Lists, Daily Progress Notes, and Discharge Summaries.
- Accept scheduled and unscheduled inpatients and evaluate potential admissions in the ER.
- Facilitate daily rounds on the unit and collaborate with other services to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in meeting the educational requirements of students, medical residents, fellows, and other healthcare team members.
- Collaborate on research-related protocols and work with the nurse manager to identify and resolve problems for safe, cost-effective care.
- Actively participate in program-related committees and projects.
- Provide a summary report on the status of inpatients to the attending and medical resident/fellow on call prior to leaving each evening.
- Assure proper charges have been posted and appropriate documentation provided.
- Work with the team on quality for the unit.
- Complete required leadership training, such as Guide to Managing at Duke.
- Be familiar with and utilize DUHS, DHIP, and CAP policies and guidelines appropriately.
- Meet monthly with the CAP/DHIP director for coaching, mentoring, and review of team successes, challenges, and opportunities.
- Participate as a member of the Leadership Team in decision-making, problem-solving, strategic planning, and implementing organizational goals.
Team & Environment
This position operates within a Team Leader model under the Center for Advanced Practice (CAP) and Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP). You will work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and pharmacy colleagues under the supervision of DSIC Medical Directors, reporting directly to the CAP/DHIP director.
Work Mode
This role is onsite at the Duke University Hospital Campus in Clinic 2A, located in Durham, North Carolina.
