Allegheny Health Network is hiring a Nurse Practitioner for Hematology Oncology to identify and manage complex medical problems across the continuum of care for oncology and hematology patients. This role provides direct patient care, administers chemotherapy, manages treatment toxicities, performs invasive procedures, and facilitates communication regarding patient goals.
What You'll Do
- Provide patient care including recording medical history, performing physical assessments, developing care plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, discharge planning, and documentation for complex oncology/hematology patients.
- Oversee the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy, biologic response modifiers, and therapeutic agents.
- Provide emergency response for life-threatening infusion-related events and manage symptoms from treatment toxicities.
- Facilitate communication regarding goals of care, including end-of-life decision making.
- Perform invasive procedures such as bone marrow aspirate biopsies and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy.
- Communicate with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and involve the physician in clinical decision making for issues outside your scope of practice.
- Demonstrate professional commitment through continuing education, independent reading, and other professional activities.
What We're Looking For
- Master’s Degree required unless exempted by prior entry into practice.
- Current PA RN license.
- Meet current Pennsylvania state certification requirements for a nurse practitioner.
- National board certification or eligibility as a neonatal nurse practitioner.
- Prescriptive authority and DEA license.
- Current driver's license.
- CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
Nice to Have
- Oncology/Hematology experience.
- Experience with oncology chemotherapy care, toxicity management, and emergency response to critical oncology events.
