About the Role

Stanford University is hiring a Nurse Practitioner – Research to join the team at the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research. You will apply your medical knowledge and clinical experience to oversee the clinical course of research participants in clinical trials, ensuring their safety and compliance with study protocols under the direction of the principal investigator and research nurse manager.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure the safety of study participants and maintain communication with their families, caregivers, and clinicians.
  • Provide clinical and administrative medical support for research trials; obtain participant history, conduct physical exams, review charts, assess findings, prescribe medication, and perform designated procedures.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, researchers, outside vendors, and other team members to administer treatment and study protocols.
  • Assess, grade, and document adverse events; apply triage and judgment to determine the course of action.
  • Oversee and administer medications and treatments per study protocol and scope of practice.
  • Comply with institutional policies and guidelines; prepare and submit documentation as required; interpret complex protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with the principal investigator to review study protocols, assess feasibility, budget projections, and staffing needs.
  • Supervise and train non-clinical and clinical staff or students as needed.
  • Identify, recruit, and enroll study participants, maintain participant records, and determine participant criteria.
  • Support sponsor-investigator research with investigational new drug or device exemption applications.
  • Coordinate and manage care for participants enrolled in clinical research trials.
  • Prepare and submit protocol-related documents and amendments to the IRB, FDA, and sponsors.
  • Perform phlebotomies, insert IVs, and conduct skin prick tests.
  • Prepare and maintain source documentation for phase 1-3 studies.
  • Participate in study design and communicate with families, participants, referring physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provide teaching and advice to participants and families to ensure compliance and retention.
  • Track and record adverse events and perform physical exams to ensure enrollment criteria and monitor changes.
  • Diagnose and treat medical conditions such as allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, asthma exacerbations, and other allergic conditions.
  • Formulate and evaluate treatment plans for conditions like allergic rhinitis, asthma, and eczema.
  • Review home diaries and be available for on-call advice and emergencies between clinic visits.
  • Administer rescue medications based on clinical judgment.
  • Write, develop, and maintain a database of clinical trial information and assist in data analysis.

What We're Looking For

  • You must be a licensed Nurse Practitioner.
  • Proven experience in clinical research and trial management.
  • Strong clinical assessment and procedural skills, including phlebotomy and IV insertion.
  • Ability to interpret complex protocols and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and training skills.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of GCP, ICH, and FDA regulatory guidelines (CFR Title 21 part 312).
  • Expertise working with children with food allergies.
  • A Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License (NPF) in California.
