New Era Technology is looking for a Network Patching Specialist to join our team. As a key technical contributor in our Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment, you will be responsible for the deployment of firmware updates, patching of network devices, and ensuring our clients' infrastructure meets performance and security standards.
What You'll Do
- Deploy firmware updates and security patches to routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
- Ensure all networking devices remain up to date with vendor-recommended patches.
- Monitor patching schedules and document successful and failed updates.
- Troubleshoot patch deployment issues and escalate unresolved problems.
- Work with vendors to address patch-related bugs, vulnerabilities, and performance issues.
- Ensure that patched networking devices comply with security best practices.
- Document security patching procedures and maintain compliance records.
- Monitor system health dashboards to proactively address potential issues.
- Document maintenance schedules, patch deployments, and resolutions in the ITSM system.
- Respond to IT service requests and incidents related to patching and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot performance, compatibility, and security issues arising from patch deployments.
- Ensure proper rollback procedures are in place for failed updates.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience as a Network Engineer.
- Understanding of firmware updates and patching procedures for networking equipment.
- Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general maintenance best practices.
- Experience participating in the planning and execution of new and existing equipment hardware and firmware upgrades.
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and internet standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, remote access, MFA, DNS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN, and QoS.
- Strong background with Cisco (ASA and Meraki), Fortinet, and Sonic Wall.
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of Network relationships to cyber security principles and practices.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise patch management solutions.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and vulnerability management.
- Outstanding capabilities to troubleshoot and correct network issues.
- Strong broad-based knowledge of Network hardware, Operating systems (client and server), networking products, connectivity, and cabling.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all customer contacts.
- Ability to provide clear written communication for ticket/project updates.
- Excellent verbal skills for customer interaction.
- Excellent documentation skills.

- Proficiency in all aspects of the core technical requirements.
- Strong team collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
- Cisco CCNA certification.
- Experience with multiple network technology stacks (e.g., Solar Winds and Auvik).
- Knowledge and experience in network virtualization technologies (e.g., Azure and AWS).
- Experience in MSPs with tools such as Connectwise or ITGlue.
- Knowledge of VOIP systems.
