The Institute for Defense Analyses is hiring a Network Engineer to support our mission-driven work. In this role, you will design, administer, and maintain multiple data, voice, and video telecommunication networks, ensuring systems meet high standards for functionality, availability, security, and performance.
What You'll Do
- Manage the implementation of IT technology initiatives, providing formal project management documentation.
- Conduct systems analyses and research to develop integration plans for new systems and software, building networks to design specifications.
- Ensure all systems meet or exceed business and security requirements according to IDA, DOW, NSA, DISA, and DSS directives.
- Mentor junior staff on work assignments to maintain project schedules.
- Prepare technical documentation, including standard operating procedures and processes.
- Develop resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems, coordinating resources when necessary.
- Administer and maintain classified and unclassified networks and telecommunication systems for optimum performance, availability, security, and functionality.
- Maintain technical proficiency in new IT technologies, keeping abreast of industry trends, and making recommendations to improve services.
- Communicate all computer network, system, and service problems and outages immediately to supervisors.
- Respond to critical after-hours support issues.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of six years of IT experience (including four years in network administration) OR a high school diploma with a minimum of eight years of IT experience (including four years in network administration).
- Advanced knowledge in IP-based network and telecommunication system design, administration, and support, preferably Cisco.
- Required experience with Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Cisco ISE, and ASAs.
- Must be organized, self-motivated, and able to work with low to moderate supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with all levels of employees; possess good interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Visio, Word, and Excel.
- Willingness to work hours outside of a regular schedule.
- Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOW 8140 certification.
Nice to Have
- Experience with InfoBlox, SonicWall, and SDWAN.
- Experience with Call Manager, Unity Connection, and IP telephony.
- Project management experience.

You will partner with Lead Network Engineers when multiple technologies are deployed and will have the opportunity to mentor junior IT staff.
