About the Role

The Nature Conservancy is hiring a Natural Climate Solutions Strategy Lead to shape and lead a compelling vision and strategy to accelerate the deployment of natural climate solutions (NCS) in North America. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership for a multi-faceted approach including carbon markets, policy, and corporate engagement, establishing the Conservancy as a leader in advancing NCS to mitigate climate change.

What You'll Do

  • Shape and lead a compelling vision and strategy to accelerate the deployment of natural climate solutions in North America.
  • Provide strategic leadership and support for all aspects of a multi-faceted strategy that includes carbon markets, state and federal land management, tax, and climate policy, and corporate engagement.
  • Coordinate effectively with staff and teams at multiple levels within the Conservancy.
  • Serve as a principle contact to represent this work externally with government agencies, other conservation organizations, donors, companies, and the academic community.
  • Establish the Conservancy as a leader in advancing natural climate solutions to mitigate climate change.
  • Lead and manage a team which carries out the strategy.
  • Build strategic, scientific, and technical partnerships to advance the strategy goals.
  • Play a leading role in donor identification, cultivation and stewardship in collaboration with the Climate Mitigation Program Director.

What We're Looking For

  • BA/BS degree and 10 years’ experience in conservation, climate, or a related field or equivalent combination.
  • Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.
  • Experience directing a major program or project of strategic importance, including management/supervision of multi-disciplinary teams and meeting deadlines.
  • Understanding of current trends and practices in climate mitigation in North America.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
  • Experience negotiating.
  • Experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation strategies and plans at the state or federal level.
  • Experience with financial management of a large program.

  • Ability to work well in a highly matrixed, decentralized and collaborative organization. Possesses strong interpersonal skills and is a team player.
  • Familiarity and knowledge related to business, governmental, and/or environmental policy and practices pertaining to land management and/or Natural Climate Solutions.
  • Knowledge of, and fluency in, carbon markets and climate change policy at the state, federal and/or global level.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Politically savvy.

You will lead and manage a team which carries out the strategy and work in collaboration with the Climate Mitigation Program Director.
