AngloGold Ashanti North America Inc. is hiring a Senior Mine Planning Engineer to drive the development and optimization of mine plans critical to project advancement. In this role, you will be responsible for creating robust plans that maximize Net Present Value and support operational readiness from the design phase through to execution.
What You'll Do
- Develop, maintain, and optimize short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans covering development, stripping, reclamation, waste dump design, stockpiles, and haulage.
- Support quality-driven mine planning by providing technical expertise from concept studies through detailed design during construction.
- Drive pit optimization through economic and technical analyses to maximize Net Present Value and inform the annual project budget.
- Lead mine engineering and efficiency studies by identifying improvement opportunities, evaluating alternatives, and implementing cost-reducing initiatives.
- Collaborate regularly with mine technical teams across multiple project sites to ensure consistent and integrated planning approaches.
- Prepare and maintain mineral reserve and resource estimates, including technical documentation compliant with SEC SK-1300.
- Ensure detailed, accurate, and compliant reporting by assisting with the preparation and review of Technical Report Summaries (TRS).
- Work closely with the Mine Engineering and Planning Manager, SVP of Projects, Processing Manager, Geology/Exploration, Land Management, and other disciplines to translate geological models into executable mining plans.
- Convert resources into economic ore reserves by applying sound engineering judgement and ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
- Provide technical input to permitting processes and support regulatory compliance to align mine plans with federal and state requirements.
- Develop and update reclamation plans and associated cost estimates to meet environmental and closure standards.
- Assist with land management activities by providing technical analysis for property planning, acquisition, or reclamation tasks.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related minerals discipline.
- Minimum five (5) years of related mining experience with at least three (3) years specifically in mine planning.
- Experience with mine planning software platforms such as DataMine, MineSight, or Vulcan.
- Willingness and demonstrated capability to learn whatever software platform is currently in use.
- Required experience with mine optimization software like NPV Scheduler or Whittle.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- A valid driver's license to operate a company vehicle to and from the project site.
- Familiarity with Environmental Reclamation standards and practices to prevent environmental harm.
- Good to excellent knowledge of heavy equipment capabilities and safe operation in surface mining.
- Strong aptitude for surface mine planning, engineering processes, and geology.
- Problem-solving skills and a proven track record of successfully working on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Self-motivation, an investigative and curious nature, and a drive to help the organization achieve its goals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including listening, reasoning, speaking, and presenting.
- Detailed organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers.
Nice to Have
- An advanced degree or related certifications such as a Project Management Certificate or CAT Equipment Management Certificate.
- Professional Engineer (PE) designation or eligibility.
- Experience with Autodesk/AutoCAD.
- Experience with ESRI-ArcView and ArcMap for Surveying GIS, Land, and Permitting.
