Role Overview
A Medical Virtual Assistant plays a key role in supporting healthcare providers, patients, and insurance entities through remote administrative and coordination services. This position requires a registered nurse who can manage sensitive medical information with accuracy and professionalism while working entirely from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle incoming and outgoing calls with patients, medical staff, and insurance representatives for appointment coordination, eligibility verification, and general inquiries
- Access and navigate multiple Electronic Medical Record (EMR) platforms—including Cerner, Epic, AthenaNet, and NextGen—to retrieve and update patient histories
- Verify insurance coverage and patient eligibility with precision
- Support clinical operations through accurate data entry, email handling, appointment scheduling, and maintenance of digital records
- Assist with patient onboarding, care plan communication, admission procedures, and initial call triage
- Act as a trusted intermediary between medical providers and patients, maintaining clear and professional communication
- Follow HIPAA regulations rigorously to protect patient confidentiality and ensure compliance
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Active registration as a nurse
- Strong command of spoken and written English
- 1–2 years of experience in a clinical or healthcare-related setting
- Familiarity with medical terminology and common healthcare workflows
- Intermediate proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and impartial in handling sensitive information
- Comfortable using digital tools and adapting to various EMR systems
- Available to work night shifts as required
Preferred Attributes
- Hold a degree in a healthcare field
- Current HIPAA certification or equivalent training
Technology Used
Experience with EMR platforms such as Cerner, Epic, AthenaHealth, and NextGen is essential. Proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office is required for daily operations.
