MyFlorida’s Department of Management Services is hiring a Medical Malpractice Investigator to conduct complex medical quality assurance investigations relating to alleged violations of practice acts and rules. You will investigate complaints of alleged malpractice for the state’s medical health care boards.
What You'll Do
- Review and analyze complaint documents, medical records, court records, lab reports, and other pertinent information.
- Prepare subpoenas to obtain necessary documents and contact/interview complainants, witnesses, and subjects.
- Coordinate investigative activity with legal counsel and with federal, state, and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for final, supplemental, and probation investigations.
- Coordinate and assist department legal and board staff regarding administrative hearings, subpoena service, complaints, orders, and enforcement.
- Testify and/or present evidence at administrative hearings, depositions, or trials, serving as a member of the prosecution team as directed.
- Develop and maintain professional contacts with risk managers, hospital administrators, nursing directors, and other healthcare providers.
- Assist in allied health investigations, participate in in-service training, conduct inspections and undercover operations, and mentor new investigators.
- Answer public inquiries, make referrals, engage in public speaking, and promote the Department’s mission.
- Perform other duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of investigative experience.
- Five (5) years of professional experience from fields such as: investigative work, law enforcement, criminal justice, regulatory inspections/compliance, claims adjusting, auditing, financial examining, or work as a licensed healthcare professional regulated by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance.
- Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus knowledge of relevant databases and state licensing systems.
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, and government regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong command of English grammar, composition, and spelling.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships, listen actively, and conduct fact-finding research.
- Skill in organizing data, writing detailed narrative reports, planning and prioritizing work, and working independently.
- Strong investigative and research abilities, attention to detail, sound judgment, time management, and a commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Must be physically present in the office to perform job duties effectively.
