This position supports the financial integrity of patient billing operations by managing collections for medical accounts. The Medical Collector is responsible for reviewing outstanding balances, confirming patient demographics, and validating insurance coverage to ensure accurate billing. You will monitor reimbursement statuses, identify delays, and take appropriate action to secure payments from insurance providers and patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Resolve patient account discrepancies by coordinating with insurance carriers and internal departments.
- Verify coverage details and update records to reflect current patient and payer information.
- Initiate follow-up procedures for unpaid claims, including phone outreach and documentation of collection efforts.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documents and request adjustments or refunds when necessary.
- Generate monthly accounts receivable reports and assist with other assigned financial tracking tasks.
- Identify recurring issues with specific payors and escalate findings to management for resolution.
- Respond professionally to inquiries from patients and insurance representatives via phone or in person.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies and protect sensitive financial and personal data.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in accounts receivable, medical billing, or a related field. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and familiarity with standard accounting practices are essential. Proficiency in written and verbal communication is necessary for effective coordination with patients and insurers.
Additional education, certifications, or experience in healthcare finance may be considered an asset. The role supports remote work but requires consistent adherence to procedural standards and reporting timelines.
