About the Role

Allegheny Health Network is hiring a Medical Assistant to join our Primary Care team in Belle Vernon. In this full-time role, you’ll work under provider direction as part of the health care team to coordinate patient examinations, treatment, and health care planning. You will also assist with other office functions that support patient care and daily operations.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate patient care using a team-based approach under the supervision of the health care provider.
  • Prepare and room patients within the clinical practice setting according to standardized work flows.
  • Accurately obtain patient vital signs and document patient information, history, tobacco use, and medication screening.
  • Assist in administering depression screening tools and complete annual wellness visit screenings.
  • Review, update, and screen the medication list in the EHR and review social history with patients.
  • Pend or 'cue up' orders for required age-appropriate screenings, prescriptions, refills, or other orders based on approved protocols.
  • Perform back office testing following approved protocols and policies.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Serve as a scribe with additional training.
  • Provide follow-up with patients at designated intervals via their preferred method in accordance with provider instructions.
  • Notify patients of test results under the direction of the provider in a timely manner.
  • Prepare exam rooms for patient visits and ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments per established policy and manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Accurately perform lab controls and equipment checks as assigned.
  • Administer and accurately document medications in accordance with policy and safe practice.
  • Document accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) according to established standards and work flows.
  • Accurately perform clerical office functions and other duties as assigned.
  • Float or travel between physician office locations as required.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant experience OR 1 year in a direct patient care role, including taking vital signs.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • For recent graduates (within 5 years) or those with proof of 1 year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last 3 years: completion of certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and obtaining certification within 120 days of hire.
  • An accepted Medical Assistant Certification (NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA).

  • Associate's Degree.
