Salas O’Brien is hiring a Mechanical Designer Team Lead to spearhead mechanical engineering design for major projects across the United States. In this leadership role, you will specialize in BIM/VDC for large-scale facilities like hyperscale and AI data centers, driving the design, modeling, and simulation of complex mechanical systems. What You'll Do
- Lead mechanical engineering design activities on major U.S. projects.
- Design, model, and simulate mechanical systems for hyperscale and AI data centers, including HVAC, piping, plumbing, cooling towers, chilled water systems, and boilers.
- Prepare engineering calculations and detailed mechanical drawings.
- Design highly energy-efficient and sustainable systems.
- Create technical documentation for project execution, including design criteria and specifications.
- Ensure project requirements are met in terms of scope, cost, and schedule.
- Collaborate with architects and engineers to coordinate BIM models and resolve conflicts.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with engineering codes and safety standards.
- Develop and maintain project scope documentation and revisions.
- Utilize BIM tools for virtual construction of mechanical systems and coordination with other disciplines.
- Manage and coordinate projects, including on-site supervision.
- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress.
- Utilize laser scanning technology to document installation states.
What We're Looking For
- A U.S. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a foreign degree equivalent.
- 1 year of experience as a Mechanical Designer or in a related occupation.
- 1 year of experience preparing detailed (LOD400), clash-free BIM models for mechanical and electrical systems in large-scale facilities.
- Experience managing and mentoring mechanical engineering teams, including mechanical designers and BIM specialists.
- Advanced proficiency in engineering and design software tools, including Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, TRACE® 3D Plus, Revizto, and coordination platforms including Autodesk Construction Cloud and Bentley Synchro.
