WECTEC Staffing Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric Company LLC, is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer. In this role, you will design mechanical systems and components for both traditional nuclear projects and new initiatives developing future nuclear-powered systems. You will report to the Manager, Material Handling Engineering and be based at one of our facilities in Peterborough, Burlington, or Kitchener, Ontario.
What You'll Do
- Develop 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials for complex first-of-a-kind electro-mechanical tooling.
- Assemble and test custom equipment throughout the design evolution from prototype to finished product.
- Assist with developing test procedures to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Assist with operating final tooling systems in customer facilities.
- Perform classical hand calculations and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to qualify systems against applicable codes and standards.
- Prepare concise design reports and technical specifications.
- Promote innovation and new methods in developing new technologies and nuclear systems.
- Collaborate globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists.
- Support issue resolution throughout the design, manufacture, and testing of systems.
What We're Looking For
- A degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience; recent graduates will be considered.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively in a team environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience in conceptual design development, design reviews, and engineering change control processes.
- Experience designing/building custom equipment such as steel structures, hoisting/lifting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems, or electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience working within 3D CAD systems.
- Experience with manufacturing techniques, welding procedures, or associated inspection techniques.
