About the Role

Eaton Corporation is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Hengelo, Netherlands. You will be a key contributor to our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) product line, developing new switchgear according to IEC assembly standards for the energy transition market. In this role, you will handle both mechanical and electrical design aspects, focusing on 3D construction, Design for Manufacturing, Robustness, and Cost.

What You'll Do

  • Develop electro/mechanical designs for new products, retrofits, updates, and functionalities using 3D-CAD in line with established design standards.
  • Participate in customer communication regarding specific design assignments and project meetings.
  • Work within a structured stage-gate process and apply Design for Six Sigma tools such as Pugh matrix, DFMEAs, DFA, tolerance calculations, error proofing, and P-diagrams.
  • Ensure all components and assemblies comply with applicable industry and company standards.
  • Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams to meet specifications, evaluate designs, and assess manufacturability, serviceability, and product costs.
  • Proactively identify risks and seek solutions within designs, consulting with colleagues and experts as needed; validate new designs through calculations, evaluations, models, prototypes, and tests.
  • Coordinate physical testing with prototypes, lead design reviews and verification, and adjust designs based on results.
  • Manage the release of parts and assemblies for production in collaboration with the production facility.

What We're Looking For

  • MSc/BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering with a strong interest in design and construction.
  • Proficiency with 3D design software and general Microsoft Office tools.
  • Proven experience as a mechanical engineer in a relevant industry.
  • Team player with a willingness to learn, a digital mindset, and strong learning ability.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and solve problems effectively.
  • Willingness to travel internationally on occasion.
  • Fluency in both English and Dutch.

Nice to Have

  • Basic knowledge of switchgear design and manufacturing processes.
  • Design for Six Sigma Green Belt certification, or the ambition to obtain it.

You will work in a creative, open, and transparent international environment, collaborating closely with customers and within multidisciplinary teams. You will report to the R&D department.
