About the Role

This role involves leading the research and development team to design, test, and launch new food products while improving existing formulations. The manager will coordinate with quality, regulatory, and supply chain teams to ensure timely, compliant product development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of new food products from concept to commercialization
  • Manage formulation improvements for existing product lines
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations and marketing
  • Ensure all products meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards
  • Oversee sensory and shelf-life testing protocols
  • Develop and maintain technical product specifications
  • Guide packaging and labeling development in compliance with regulations
  • Manage timelines and deliverables for product launches
  • Evaluate raw materials and ingredient suppliers
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food science advancements
  • Support cost reduction initiatives through reformulation
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and quality management systems
  • Lead troubleshooting for production and quality issues
  • Prepare documentation for internal and external audits
  • Coordinate with regulatory affairs on claim substantiation
  • Drive innovation aligned with brand positioning and consumer trends
  • Manage R&D budget and resource allocation
  • Mentor and develop R&D team members
  • Oversee lab operations and safety protocols
  • Facilitate pilot runs and scale-up activities
  • Analyze consumer and market data to inform product development
  • Maintain accurate project records and databases
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application
  • Support sustainability initiatives in product design
  • Ensure intellectual property considerations are addressed

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in food science or related discipline
  • Experience in clean label or minimally processed foods
  • Background in organic or natural food product development
  • Knowledge of USDA or FDA compliance frameworks
