Cumberland Farms is hiring a Manager of Category Performance Improvement to shape data-driven category strategies that drive growth, enhance profitability, and improve assortment productivity. You'll conduct holistic category reviews, analyze market trends, and develop actionable plans that improve business outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Build and lead the category review process in collaboration with Marketing, including assortment benchmarking, vendor negotiations, and private label strategy.
- Perform quantitative analysis, develop models, and support dashboard creation (using tools like PowerBI and Excel) to assess category profitability, space insights, and vendor funding.
- Drive decision-making with incomplete information, developing creative solutions to navigate data limitations.
- Work with Marketing leadership to negotiate annual CMA funding from national brand vendors, identifying points of leverage and participating in vendor meetings to drive incremental improvement.
- Proactively reach out to functions including Finance, Sourcing, Field Operations, and IT to drive execution and ensure value is realized.
- Cultivate trusted relationships with internal teams and supplier counterparts to seek out collaborative opportunities.
- Identify and test new approaches to improve category profitability using ‘Test & Learn’ methods to pilot strategies.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Analytics, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5+ years in category management, marketing, or a performance improvement role, ideally within retail or consumer packaged goods (CPG) sectors.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
- Objective thinker who can drive data-driven decision-making and apply scrutiny.
- Self-motivated with a collaborative, proactive approach.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract management.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to travel independently 5%.
- Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with data analytics tools such as PowerBI and familiarity with retail marketing strategies.
