Lead the evolution of data and analytics engineering within a mission-driven public health technology organization. This role is responsible for shaping the strategic direction of data capabilities, ensuring systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with both technical excellence and real-world public health impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute a comprehensive analytics strategy that prioritizes scalability, usability, and measurable business and public health outcomes
- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to identify data needs and translate them into effective technical solutions
- Lead the development and refinement of data models that support accurate reporting, executive dashboards, and advanced analytics use cases
- Design, build, and optimize SQL-based data pipelines across Azure SQL and SQL Server environments
- Oversee Power BI implementation, including Direct Query architectures and paginated reporting for operational and leadership reporting
- Enhance ETL and ELT processes to ensure data reliability, performance, and maintainability
- Implement data observability practices using tools such as Application Insights to detect and resolve issues proactively
- Guide technical decisions for .NET-based data services, including the use of Entity Framework and related components
- Mentor engineers and elevate team-wide proficiency in data engineering best practices
- Promote organization-wide data adoption by improving access, clarity, and confidence in analytics outputs
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing production SQL environments, including T-SQL, Azure SQL, and SQL Server
- Track record building and scaling Power BI solutions, with expertise in Direct Query and paginated reports
- Firm grasp of data modeling, schema design, and ETL/ELT pipeline architecture
- Experience working with .NET technologies such as C# and Entity Framework in data-intensive applications
- Ability to communicate complex data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Leadership experience mentoring data or engineering professionals and improving team output quality
- Strong collaborative skills with stakeholders across engineering, product, and business functions
- Strategic thinker who can align long-term data vision with immediate organizational needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and modern data platform consolidation
- Advanced Power BI skills, particularly in performance tuning and complex report development
- Experience implementing efficient data access patterns using lightweight tools like Dapper or RepoDb
- Familiarity with API documentation tools such as NSwag or Swashbuckle
- Proficiency with YAML or JSON for configuring data pipelines and services
- Scripting experience using PowerShell for data automation or infrastructure tasks
- Background in data observability, including monitoring, alerting, and root cause analysis
- History of driving adoption of new data platforms or reporting standards across teams
