Position Overview
This role is central to expanding philanthropic support by managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects. The Major Gifts Officer develops personalized strategies to deepen donor engagement, advance relationships, and secure transformative gifts that further the organization’s mission. Success depends on thoughtful communication, strategic planning, and consistent follow-through.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a portfolio of major donors and high-potential prospects through tailored outreach and relationship-building.
- Clearly communicate the organization’s purpose, history, and programs to diverse audiences, both in writing and in person.
- Maintain a balanced pipeline of prospects to ensure sustainable fundraising momentum.
- Record all donor interactions in Salesforce CRM to support data-driven engagement and personalized follow-up.
- Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and speaking opportunities.
- Travel regularly to connect with donors and prospects in person, fostering trust and long-term commitment.
- Collaborate across departments—including Communications, Marketing, and Program teams—to align messaging and enhance donor experiences.
- Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly revenue forecasts based on portfolio activity and pipeline analysis.
- Create customized cultivation plans that guide prospects toward meaningful giving.
- Draft personalized proposals, stewardship reports, and program updates that reflect donor interests and impact.
- Leverage wealth screening tools, research, and donor networks to identify new major gift prospects.
- Participate in required trainings, including orientation, leadership development, suicide prevention, and team culture sessions.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support organizational goals.
Qualifications
Required
- Five years of experience in fundraising or sales, with a focus on major gift development.
- Proven success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors over a sustained period.
- Two years of experience using Salesforce or a comparable CRM system.
- Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.
Preferred
- Three years of experience within a nonprofit organization.
Technical Tools
Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is essential for daily operations and reporting.
