About, Inc. is inviting expressions of interest for the Local Investigations Fellowship. This program is designed for up-and-coming journalists to conduct impactful local investigative journalism. Fellows will develop and report on a high-stakes investigative story idea with editorial support and resources from The New York Times. The mission is to seek the truth and help people understand the world through independent, reliable, and quality journalism.
What You'll Do
- Develop and pitch a detailed investigative story idea with a clear line of accountability and sense of place.
- Report the story, obtaining critical records, data, and human sources.
- Produce a high-impact investigation that reveals something new and holds power accountable.
What We're Looking For
- A cover letter that must include at least one investigative story idea or pitch.
- Five published clips uploaded as full text (not just links), demonstrating excellence in evocative writing and high-impact news stories.
- Clips that highlight local community voices.
Nice to Have
- Proposals that are as detailed as possible, including specifics about what the investigation aims to prove.
- Story ideas that start with high stakes, have a clear line of accountability, reveal something secret, and have a clear sense of place.
