About the Role
The attorney will manage a caseload of insurance defense matters, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, preparing for trial, and handling appellate work as needed.
Responsibilities
- Handle civil litigation cases from initiation through resolution
- Represent insurance companies and their policyholders in court
- Conduct legal research and draft motions, responses, and briefs
- Manage discovery processes including document production and depositions
- Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, and trials
- Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients
- Maintain accurate case files and documentation
- Communicate regularly with clients regarding case developments
- Analyze claims and provide liability assessments
- Respond to complaints and draft initial pleadings
- Conduct witness interviews and prepare trial exhibits
- Evaluate damages and recommend reserve levels
- Coordinate with experts and consultants
- Ensure compliance with court rules and deadlines
- Participate in mediation and alternative dispute resolution
- Draft discovery requests and responses
- Prepare clients for deposition and trial testimony
- Monitor case progress and adjust strategy as needed
- Attend status conferences and pretrial meetings
- File appeals and draft appellate briefs when necessary
