What You'll Do
Deliver nursing support across inpatient medical-surgical units, outpatient clinics, and laboratory settings as required. Administer oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications following facility guidelines, and accurately document all actions. Monitor patients’ responses to treatment and promptly report changes to registered nurses or physicians.
Take vital signs, record symptoms, and assist with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and feeding. Help maintain a safe, clean patient environment and respond quickly to patient requests or emergencies. Participate in minor procedures, wound care, and patient education initiatives, empowering individuals and families with knowledge about managing health conditions.
Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to support care planning and ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery. Uphold professional standards in communication with patients, families, and colleagues, and engage in ongoing training to strengthen clinical expertise.
Requirements
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification
- Proven experience delivering nursing care in specialty and primary care outpatient settings
- Familiarity with procedures authorized under the Licensed Practical Nurse Act and VA Vocational Nurse Qualification Standards
- Competence in treating adult psychiatric, medical, and geriatric populations
- Ability to manage patient care responsibilities with growing autonomy
Work Environment
This is an onsite position based in Charleston, SC, primarily at the Ralph H. Johnson VAMC and nearby Community-Based Outpatient Clinics. The role requires consistent presence in clinical settings where direct patient care is delivered.
