Lumen Technologies is hiring a Lead Planning Engineer to join our National Data Planning team. In this key role, you will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for managing capacity for our national data network infrastructure. You will formulate projects to procure and install network hardware and software to meet demand and support the optimization of legacy networks.
What You'll Do
- Execute broad professional knowledge and skills in applying networking theories, concepts, principles, and methodologies within a hybrid service provider telecommunications environment.
- Independently plan and carry out assignments in conformance with accepted policies and practices.
- Handle workload distribution and track work-in-progress for several junior planners within an assigned regional area of responsibility.
- Manage work intake per service-level agreements; be highly responsive to changing company priorities and task escalations.
- Monitor capacity consumption dashboards and ensure prompt action to address any critical needs.
- Determine and prioritize monthly and annual capital budget needs within your assigned regional area.
- Arrange training as needed to ensure subordinate planners are competent to perform work.
- Assist other Lead Planners when needed.
- Perform escalation support for subordinate planners and lead weekly team meetings.
- Support automation and reporting development to improve team productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Regularly pursue opportunities for personal professional skills improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Excellent critical thinking and complex analysis skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to quickly learn new systems, applications, and processes.
- Group leader or supervisory experience within a technical engineering, operations, provisioning, or project management team.
- Extensive technical knowledge of LAN/WAN internetworking technologies at the service provider level; ability to apply experience with Transport equipment, Ethernet switches, and/or IP routers to perform daily planning tasks.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; capable of organizing and managing multiple complex assignments simultaneously, on schedule and within budget.
- Willingness and ability to work both individually and within a team environment to complete projects.
- High responsiveness and ability to communicate across various levels of the business (executive, sales, product, engineering, technology groups, cross-functional work groups, customers).
- High proficiency in PC software and office applications (Microsoft preferred).
- Flexibility to work outside of “normal” business hours when needed to meet deadlines.
- Project management experience.
- A Bachelor of Science or higher degree, 10+ years’ networking experience, and at least one active professional or technical certification.
Nice to Have
- Data analytics and/or database administration skills are a plus.

- Compensation varies by location: $105,786 - $141,047 in AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
- Compensation: $111,074 - $148,099 in CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
- Compensation: $116,364 - $155,152 in AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
