Lead Compounding Technician, Sterile oversees daily sterile compounding operations and leads a team of technicians and support staff in a compliant, high-integrity environment. This role ensures all activities follow USP 797 and 800 guidelines and site-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), with a focus on safety, sterility, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the work of sterile compounding personnel, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and environmental controls.
- Act as a designated trainer and evaluator for core competencies including garbing, hand hygiene, aseptic technique, and cleanroom cleaning.
- Prepare and compound sterile medications under pharmacist oversight, including formulation and aseptic filling.
- Perform and document routine cleanroom maintenance tasks such as equipment calibration, sterilization, depyrogenation, and supply preparation.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with safety monitoring protocols.
- Collaborate with pharmacists and site leadership on quality, compliance, and personnel matters.
- Report cleanroom issues promptly to supervising pharmacists and assist in corrective actions.
- Complete all required training and maintain current knowledge of USP standards.
Qualifications
Candidates must have at least two years of sterile compounding experience, or one year each in sterile and nonsterile compounding. Current registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in Arizona and national certification (CPhT) are required. The CSPT® certification is required within one year of hire. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
Preferred candidates will have three or more years of sterile compounding experience, prior work in a sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing setting, and at least one year in a leadership or training role.
