What You'll Do
In this role, you'll work directly within a high-throughput DNA sequencing lab, observing and analyzing hands-on processes to uncover inefficiencies. Your primary focus will be transforming complex, manual lab workflows into streamlined, digital systems through automation and integration.
You’ll map out existing procedures, pinpoint areas where data entry is redundant or error-prone, and design digital solutions that reduce friction. Using no-code and low-code platforms, you’ll rapidly prototype automations for data syncing, alerts, and reporting, ensuring seamless flow between lab instruments and software systems.
When issues arise, you’ll dig into root causes and implement structural fixes—not just quick patches. You’ll build minimum viable versions of new processes, test them in real lab conditions, and refine them based on feedback from scientists and technicians. Every change you make will be validated with data to ensure measurable improvements in speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
Requirements
- Demonstrate a natural drive to understand and improve how systems work, especially through automation and simplification.
- Actively use and understand AI tools, integrating them into daily workflows to boost productivity and decision-making.
- Have a track record of optimizing processes in technical or operational environments, whether in labs, software, or physical operations.
- Be comfortable connecting software via APIs and automation platforms such as Make, Zapier, or n8n.
- Be able to write basic scripts in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages to handle data processing or integrations.
- Approach problems analytically, relying on data to validate solutions rather than assumptions.
- Communicate effectively with non-technical team members, translating their challenges into functional technical requirements.
- Be fluent in English and available to work on-site in Zagreb at least two days per week, with flexibility to work from Ljubljana or Maribor on other days.
