About the Role

Washington University in St Louis is hiring an Insurance Billing/Collections Assistant III for its Surgery department. This remote position performs advanced billing and collection activities for physician's services and may act as a lead, guiding and training other team members.

What You'll Do

  • Act as a Lead IBC Assistant, training and providing guidance to other IBC Assistants.
  • Perform collection follow-up duties on specific financial classifications, such as commercial insurance, self-pay, Medicare, and Medicaid claims.
  • Handle discounts, adjustments, and charge corrections.
  • Make collection calls to insurance companies and patients to ensure timely payment of claims.
  • Review remittance advices for rejection and accuracy of payment amounts.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of charge tickets, monitoring attachments for claims to obtain maximum reimbursements.
  • Contact insurance companies regarding posting payments and collection agencies regarding payment reports.
  • Respond to questions and requests from insurance companies.
  • Support the customer service unit in answering billing and collection questions.
  • Act as back-up support for Accounts Receivable staff during peak times, vacations, and illnesses.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • 3 years of experience in billing or insurance.

  • Compensation: $20.57 - $30.84 / Hourly
