Washington University in St. Louis seeks an Insurance Billing/Collections Assistant III to join the Surgery department. This remote position performs advanced billing and collection activities for physician's services, acting as a lead and ensuring timely payments from various payers.
What You'll Do
- May act as a Lead IBC Assistant, training and providing guidance to other IBC Assistants.
- Perform collection follow-up duties on specific financial classifications, such as commercial insurance, self-pay, Medicare and Medicaid claims.
- Handle discounts, adjustments and charge corrections.
- Make collection calls to insurance companies and patients to ensure timely payment of claims.
- Review remittance advises for rejection and accuracy of payment amounts.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of charge tickets, monitoring attachments for claims to obtain maximum reimbursements.
- Contact insurance companies regarding posting payments and collection agencies regarding payment reports.
- Respond to questions and requests from insurance companies.
- Support customer service unit in answering billing and collection questions.
- Act as back-up support for Accounts Receivable staff during peak times, vacations and illnesses.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
- 3+ years of billing or insurance experience.
Nice to Have
- 2+ years of post-secondary education.
- Collections strategies experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Experience handling confidential data.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with office equipment and telephone systems.
