Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, is seeking a Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and qualification of automation and controls for GMP manufacturing facilities and labs. You will bridge process, IT/OT, and quality systems to deliver compliant and reliable operations.
What You'll Do
- Support a safe working environment by aligning with all pertinent environmental health, safety, and maintenance program practices.
- Provide technical leadership for day-to-day operational shift support for Upstream and Downstream Drug Substance manufacturing.
- Lead FEED and detailed design for I&C scope; define I/O allocations, network topologies, and panel architectures.
- Produce complete I&C design packages including enclosure details, panel layout/BOM, terminal block details, and network integration details.
- Specify and oversee fabrication of control panels and field integration and manage vendor E&I scope.
- Configure, review, and test DCS/PLC I/O layer and relevant applications, including DeltaV with ISA 88 batch.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system issues, optimizing control strategies for safety, reliability and efficiency.
- Plan and execute SAT and support OQ/commissioning: loop checks, calibration coordination, and punch-list closure.
- Execute in a GxP manner with full traceability and change control, aligned with CSV practices and 21 CFR Part 11.
- Drive continuous improvement in partnership with Plant Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Process engineering and OPex.
- Collaborate within the AbbVie network to learn, implement and share continuous improvement opportunities.
- Develop and maintain Engineering Specifications, documents, drawings, and Standard Operational Procedures (SOP).
- Act as a System SME, providing necessary support during internal and external regulatory audits.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence.
- 8+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience.
- Experience in change control, nonconformance, corrective & preventative actions, and Commissioning & Qualification activities.
- Experience with instrumentation on the following platforms: Rockwell PLC Platform, Emerson DeltaV.
- A consistent career history of technical contributions and accomplishments.
- Strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to work on problems of complex scope involving multiple competing factors.
- Ability to interact well with diverse groups and maintain strong working relationships.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
- Demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control.
Nice to Have
- A post-graduate education or degree.
- A technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries.
- Demonstrated understanding of project life cycles and familiarity with engineering processes from conceptualization through turnover.
