Determine eligibility and support community well-being
This position plays a key role in assessing qualification for public assistance programs, including healthcare and income-based benefits. You'll conduct client interviews, review documentation, and verify information to ensure accurate and timely enrollment in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Core Responsibilities
- Evaluate client circumstances to determine eligibility within mandated timeframes.
- Collect and assess personal, financial, and household data through interviews, file reviews, and third-party sources.
- Explain program details, requirements, and decisions clearly to applicants and ongoing recipients.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure caseloads meet quality and timeliness standards.
- Identify potential discrepancies and submit referrals for fraud investigation when necessary.
- Adjust case status in response to policy updates and communicate changes to clients.
- Support hearing processes at the local or state level as required.
- Keep case documentation current with regular reviews and updates.
Qualifications
A combination of education and experience is accepted. Candidates may hold an associate’s degree in a related field plus two years of relevant public-facing experience, or a high school diploma with three years of qualifying work history. Experience in data analysis, client interviews, eligibility determination, or administrative tasks is essential. An equivalent blend of training and professional background may also meet requirements.
Required abilities include interpreting complex guidelines, adapting to policy changes, working accurately with detailed information, and collaborating within a team environment. Proficiency with office software and data systems is expected, along with strong organizational and communication skills.

This role operates under a hybrid model, allowing partial remote work with periodic office presence. Employees must reside within a two-hour drive of the assigned Buncombe County facility.
