Responsibilities
- Operates computer systems to manage digital image files electronically
- Reviews digital plate proofs on screen for correct masthead and detects visible errors such as margin issues, missing colors, or pagination problems
- Loads and images printing plates using designated plate imaging equipment
- Removes imaged plates from the processing line and inspects for visible defects
- Positions plates into a bending machine and performs plate bending operations
- Applies slip sheets to bent plates, organizes them on carts in sequence, and transports carts to the press area
- Adjusts reproduction curves and alignment settings at the RIP as required
- Unpacks large shipments of printing plates, which may measure up to approximately 5.5 feet by 3.75 feet by 0.016 inches
- Disposes of or recycles all packaging materials from plate deliveries
- Reports missing materials to relevant team members
- May manage aspects of production scheduling, including reprints due to shortages, damage, or print errors
- May assist other departments by covering their duties when necessary
- Keeps accurate records of completed work, preventive maintenance, and special projects
- Replenishes chemistry supplies in the plate processor as needed
- Conducts scheduled preventive maintenance on plate benders, processors, and imaging systems, documenting any issues and reporting defects
- Performs core Quality Assurance tasks such as verifying CIVs, preparing boxed samples, recording sample shipments, and pulling color samples for color tracking folders
- Processes plate revisions as required by production needs
- Completes additional tasks as assigned by supervisors
