This is the first dedicated HR role at a Canadian startup transforming voice automation for small and medium businesses. You will design and lead human resources strategy in a globally distributed, remote-first environment, reporting directly to founders and senior leadership. Your work will directly influence how the company grows, supports its people, and sustains culture across time zones.
What You'll Do
- Partner with executives to define long-term talent needs, succession planning, and workforce strategy.
- Lead full-cycle recruitment for professional and managerial roles, aligning hiring with business goals.
- Advise managers and staff on sensitive HR matters, including performance issues, accommodations, and investigations.
- Design and implement compensation and benefits strategies tailored to multiple regions, ensuring market competitiveness.
- Build learning and development programs that support internal growth and skill advancement.
- Manage employee relations processes, including disciplinary actions, terminations, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws in Canada and India, regularly reviewing policies and practices.
- Stay current on HR trends, legal updates, and technology to continuously improve people systems.
- Use HR analytics to inform decisions around retention, engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
- Develop initiatives that strengthen culture, belonging, and employee experience in a decentralized setup.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least three years of hands-on HR management experience.
- Strong command of employment regulations in both Canada and India.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with discretion in handling confidential matters.
- Proven ability to resolve conflicts, negotiate solutions, and navigate complex interpersonal dynamics.
- Highly organized with sharp attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms; ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Comfort working independently in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving needs.
- Ability to attend meetings across operational time zones and work remotely from India.

- Background in call centers, IT services, or software development sectors.
