Marshfield Clinic Health System is hiring a Hospital Coding Specialist III to ensure the accurate coding of complex inpatient services. In this role, you will analyze medical record documentation to assign ICD codes and DRG classifications, playing a key part in our commitment to accessible and compassionate healthcare.

What You'll Do

• Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures following ICD Official Guidelines and UHDDS.
• Assign appropriate MS-DRG or APR-DRG classifications for complex, multi-specialty inpatient services.
• Review professional and hospital inpatient medical record documentation to identify and assign ICD codes, principal diagnoses, co-morbidities, complications, and procedures.
• Assign Present on Admission indicators and Discharge Disposition codes.
• Identify and report Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) and PSI conditions through established procedures.
• Work collaboratively with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to address documentation concerns and DRG assignments.
• Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and third-party payer inquiries.

What We're Looking For

• An AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma, Health Information Management Degree, or related program.
• Three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility.
• An active credential of CCS, RHIT, or RHIA through AHIMA; or an AAPC credential at the time of hire.

Nice to Have

• Experience with electronic health record systems.
• Academic or level I or II trauma experience.
• If holding an AAPC credential, a CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder) certification is preferred.
