About the Role

Gusto is looking for a Head of Technical Recruiting to lead our hiring efforts for Engineering, Infrastructure, Data, Security, and AIT. You will be a strategic partner to VP+ Engineering leaders, managing a team of 20 to directly impact Gusto's ability to scale with world-class technical talent.

What You'll Do

  • Empower and develop a team of 20, including directly managing two recruiting managers.
  • Partner with VP+ Engineering leaders on all aspects of recruiting, from defining hiring profiles to aligning on long-term growth goals.
  • Review, select, and implement innovative AI-driven tools and data-informed strategies to elevate talent attraction and increase recruiter productivity.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain technical talent that reflects the diversity of the 400,000+ small businesses Gusto serves.
  • Innovate on top-of-funnel strategies to attract technical talent, inclusive of employer brand, engineering community relations, and referrals.
  • Build and leverage data infrastructure to forecast capacity, shape sourcing strategies, and influence executive decision-making with compelling insights.

What We're Looking For

  • 12+ years of recruiting experience.
  • At least 6+ years in people management.
  • Experience managing managers and leading large teams (15-20+) in a high-growth environment.
  • Proven track record of building large-scale engineering organizations.
  • Curiosity and proven ability to learn and apply AI-driven tools to improve operational efficiency and recruiting effectiveness.
  • Experience working as a peer to VP+ technical leaders to influence hiring philosophy and strategy.
  • Hands-on leadership style that thrives in the trenches while setting clear strategic direction.

Team & Environment

You will lead a team of 20 (FTEs and contractors), including two direct-report managers. The team is part of the Invite pod, supporting the Engineering, Infrastructure, Data, Security, and AIT organizations.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation range: $195,745/yr to $241,419/yr in Denver and most major metro locations; $229,785/yr to $283,402/yr for San Francisco and New York.

Work Mode

This is a hybrid position located in Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA; or New York, NY.
