Head of AML/CTF Compliance
This role leads the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing function for an authorised Electronic Money Institution regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. As the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), you will ensure compliance with national and EU-level financial crime regulations, maintain the integrity of the firm’s compliance framework, and support the long-term resilience of its regulated operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) expectations for AML/CFT, including timely submission of regulatory reports and the Risk Evaluation Questionnaire (REQ)
- Act as primary liaison with the CBI on financial crime matters and serve as the formal reporting channel for Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to the FIU and Revenue Commissioners
- Lead the development and board-level presentation of the Annual MLRO Report, providing an independent assessment of the effectiveness of AML/CFT controls
- Own and update the Financial Crime Risk Assessment (FCRA), ensuring it reflects the business’s evolving risk profile and operational complexity
- Develop, maintain, and oversee local implementation of AML/CFT policies, procedures, and training materials
- Provide expert guidance and escalation support to front-line teams on customer due diligence, enhanced screening, and complex case resolution
- Oversee transaction monitoring systems, ensuring appropriate tuning, testing, and performance evaluation to detect suspicious activity
- Lead the annual Compliance Testing & Oversight Plan for financial crime, working with internal testing functions to address control gaps
- Monitor emerging regulatory developments, including EU-level reforms such as AMLA, and support integration of new requirements into operations
- Advise product and commercial teams during design phases to embed compliance-by-design principles in new offerings
- Collaborate with global compliance teams to align standards, share insights, and drive consistent practices across jurisdictions
- Leverage data analytics, AI, and tools like Gemini and Tableau to improve detection accuracy and operational efficiency
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven experience in AML, compliance, or legal roles within financial services, particularly in a regulated Irish environment
- Direct experience managing audit outcomes and compliance testing programs
- Degree in law, economics, management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- AML/KYC certification such as CAMS or ICA is expected
- Residency in Ireland and eligibility to work without restriction
- Formal approval under the CBI’s PCF-52 designation and adherence to Fitness and Probity Standards
- Experience with Electronic Money Institutions or Payment Institutions is strongly preferred
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in Dublin with flexibility for remote work. Occasional in-person meetings will take place at the Dublin office. The position operates Monday to Friday within a standard 40-hour workweek, with no weekend or evening commitments required.
