Miami University Libraries is hiring a Head, Learning and Engagement; Associate Librarian or Principal Librarian

About the Role

Miami University Libraries is hiring a Head, Learning and Engagement at the rank of Associate or Principal Librarian. This strategic and collaborative leader will set the vision and direction for the combined department, overseeing the library instruction program, foundational learning activities, outreach, and support for innovative learning spaces.

What You'll Do

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate departmental staff.
  • Manage change and solve problems in alignment with Libraries and University priorities.
  • Set departmental vision in alignment with the Libraries Catalyst strategic plan and the Miami University Strategic Plan, MiamiTHRIVE.
  • Represent and connect the Libraries at University events, committees, and collaborations.
  • Oversee a wide range of instructional and outreach services, including information literacy instruction, student success programs, outreach to new students, the Personal Librarian Program, Instructional Design, and Maker literacy instruction.
  • Drive the development and management of innovative spaces that support hands-on learning and creativity, such as the Makerspace and media studios.
  • Monitor and evaluate trends in academic libraries related to student success, experiential learning, and emerging educational technologies.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow department heads, librarians, and staff to help implement the Libraries’ vision and goals.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution or non-U.S. equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an academic, research, or special library.
  • Record of scholarship and professional achievement appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate or Principal Librarian.
  • Experience with library instruction and learning support.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with current and emerging technologies, especially educational technologies, makerspaces, or collaborative learning spaces.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience assessing instructional services.
  • Experience with fundraising or grant writing.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with assessment of instructional programs.

Team & Environment

The department includes five librarians, three professional staff, and a cohort of student employees. This role reports directly to the Associate Dean of Libraries.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Comprehensive benefits.
  • Salary range: Associate: $87,000-$92,000 / Principal: $92,000-$101,000.

This is an onsite position.
