About the Role
This position supports transportation planning initiatives by conducting research, analyzing data, and contributing to the development of transportation models and policy recommendations. The role involves collaboration with senior planners and engineers on projects ranging from urban mobility to regional transportation systems.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze transportation data including traffic volumes and travel patterns
- Assist in developing transportation models for forecasting and scenario planning
- Support preparation of transportation impact assessments and studies
- Contribute to the development of sustainable transportation strategies
- Participate in public and stakeholder engagement activities
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for planning projects
- Collaborate with engineers, urban designers, and environmental specialists
- Use GIS tools to map and visualize transportation networks
- Support transit planning and multimodal transportation initiatives
- Conduct literature reviews and policy analysis related to transportation
- Assist in preparing grant applications and funding proposals
- Perform field reviews and site observations
- Work on transportation planning for urban, suburban, and regional contexts
- Apply industry-standard software for traffic and transportation modeling
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations
- Contribute to long-range transportation plans
- Assist in evaluating transportation demand management strategies
- Participate in project scoping and planning meetings
- Develop presentations for internal and client meetings
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation
- Stay current with emerging trends in transportation planning
- Support equity and accessibility considerations in transportation projects
- Work under the guidance of senior planning professionals
- Contribute to environmental review processes
- Assist in the integration of new technologies in transportation systems
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in transportation planning or related discipline
- Experience with transportation forecasting models
- Familiarity with VISION-PLUS or similar software
- Prior internship or work experience in transportation planning
- Knowledge of transportation safety analysis
- Experience with public transit planning
- Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis
- Understanding of complete streets design principles
- Experience with community outreach methods
- Familiarity with NEPA or CEQA processes
