Vertex is hiring a Government Affairs & Public Policy Associate Director, Mexico

About the Role

As the Associate Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy for Mexico, you will lead strategic initiatives that align public policy engagement with corporate objectives. Reporting to the Director of Government Affairs for Distributor Markets, you will serve as a key liaison between Vertex and government entities, regulatory bodies, and industry coalitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement government relations strategies tailored to the Mexican healthcare landscape
  • Engage with policymakers, regulatory agencies, and industry associations to advocate for policies supporting innovation and patient access
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in pharmaceuticals, healthcare systems, and rare disease frameworks
  • Collaborate across internal departments to ensure alignment on policy positions and corporate values
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethics, compliance, and corporate responsibility in all external interactions

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory roles within the biopharmaceutical sector, government, or public administration
  • Background in rare diseases or specialty healthcare policy is essential
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English, written and spoken
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to work effectively across functions and represent the organization with integrity

Preferred Attributes

  • Advanced degree in public policy, law, healthcare, business, or related field (e.g., MA, MBA, JD, MPH)
  • Experience in either corporate or agency-side pharma or biotech policy
  • Strong interest in scientific innovation and improving healthcare systems
  • Willingness to travel as needed

This position is remote-eligible, with flexible work options including fully remote (up to five days per week), hybrid (up to two remote days), or on-site in Mexico.
