Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer/Manager to join its collaborative team in New York City, NY, Parsippany, NJ, San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA, or Oakland, CA. In this key role, you will perform numerical analyses, provide geotechnical engineering expertise, and support project management, staff supervision, and client interfacing.
What You'll Do
- Perform or check numerical analyses to model building foundations, excavations, and dewatering.
- Perform or check site-specific seismic studies, including developing ground motions and ground response analyses.
- Perform complex analyses, structural design of pile elements and underpinning systems, and special engineering inspections.
- Prepare technical documents and manage the preparation of proposals, reports, construction documents, and construction-related correspondence.
- Supervise field investigations and conventional earthwork and foundation construction activities.
- Perform and manage multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
- Plan, schedule, and develop task and project budgets. Prepare progress reports, draft change orders, invoices, and project billings.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer licensure.
- 6+ years of related Geotechnical experience.
- 3+ years of field experience with geotechnical investigations and construction observation including mass grading, deep foundations, ground improvement, and excavation support.
- Required working knowledge of EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT.
- Proven experience in preparing technical reports, specifications, and plans; writing proposals; running projects; managing clients and billings; and reviewing/mentoring staff.
- Strong understanding of codes and other regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of quantitative/technical analyses and related software.
- Entrepreneurial and professional demeanor with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to coach and assist with managing staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree with Geotechnical emphasis; Doctoral degree preferred.
- Desired software knowledge: PLAXIS, DEEPEX, FLAC2D/3D, LS-DYNA, LPILE, CLIQ, DEEPSOIL/RSSEISMIC, OPENQUAKE.
- Desired knowledge of ASCE 7 geotechnical and ground-motion related sections.
- Desire and ability to seek out new business opportunities and develop additional clients.
