Sand Technologies is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer, Nigeria

Responsibilities

  • Act as the permanent in-country technical representative by working full-time within the Ministry of Health and integrating into client teams.
  • Gain in-depth, ongoing insight into national health data systems, organizational structures, and operational goals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships at all levels of the Ministry, from frontline staff to senior officials.
  • Serve as the main technical liaison for all local activities, coordinating with deployment teams, country leads, and visiting engineers.
  • Quickly access, analyze, and integrate diverse data sources such as DHIS2, SCADA systems, network platforms, and operational databases.
  • Use prototyping to understand challenges and deliver early value through proof-of-concepts and minimum viable products using existing tools and frameworks.
  • Evolve initial prototypes into robust, production-ready systems used daily by the Ministry.
  • Ensure long-term success of deployed systems by monitoring usage, resolving issues, and improving based on user input.
  • Measure and report the impact generated by implemented solutions.
  • Leverage and master the current product suite, applying each component where best suited to local needs.
  • Record insights, obstacles, and effective approaches as reusable models for other field teams.
  • Discover and advance new opportunities through on-the-ground engagement.
  • Collaborate with Ministry staff to jointly develop solutions and transfer knowledge for independent operation.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor local technical talent to strengthen in-country expertise.
  • Create training resources and documentation adapted to local language, context, and skill levels.
  • Ensure continuity between deployment and long-term ownership by serving as a stable bridge.
  • Share field insights to enhance core products through structured feedback channels like deep dives and swarm sessions.
  • Turn early-stage implementations into scalable, well-documented systems so future teams can progress faster.
  • Provide input that shapes 30% of future product development priorities.

  • Must be self-motivated and capable of serving as the primary technical representative in the country.
  • Proficient in using digital collaboration tools to stay aligned with distributed teams.
  • Requires cultural awareness, adaptability, and authentic engagement with local context.
  • Expected to reside in Nigeria for at least 12 to 24 months.
  • Work schedule includes four days per week on-site at the Ministry of Health and one day remotely for internal coordination.
  • This is not a temporary assignment — long-term commitment and integration are expected.
