About the Role
The role involves investigating traffic collisions using engineering analysis, collecting and interpreting data, and preparing reports and testimony for legal proceedings.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site investigations of motor vehicle collisions
- Gather and document physical evidence from accident scenes
- Use engineering principles to determine vehicle speeds and impact dynamics
- Create detailed diagrams and 3D models of collision events
- Analyze vehicle damage patterns to assess impact forces
- Review police reports, medical records, and witness statements
- Apply crash reconstruction software to simulate incidents
- Determine pre-impact, at-impact, and post-impact vehicle movements
- Evaluate human factors related to driver behavior and reaction times
- Assess roadway conditions and their influence on collisions
- Interpret skid marks, yaw marks, and other trace evidence
- Calculate stopping distances under various conditions
- Reconstruct pedestrian and bicycle collisions
- Determine visibility and sightline limitations at intersections
- Evaluate compliance with traffic control devices
- Assess seat belt and airbag performance in injury causation
- Review event data recorder (EDR) information from vehicles
- Provide expert opinions on causation and liability
- Prepare technical reports for attorneys and insurers
- Present findings clearly in depositions and court testimony
- Maintain ACTAR certification and continuing education
- Follow scientific methodology in all analyses
- Work on cases involving commercial vehicles and heavy equipment
- Collaborate with other forensic specialists as needed
- Support clients in understanding technical findings
