Wachter, a family-owned company since 1930, is seeking a Fire Alarm Service Technician. In this role, you will independently perform service and special installation projects for Fire Alarm, Intrusion, and Access Control systems at various retail locations across the United States, focusing on finding solutions and ensuring customer satisfaction.
What You'll Do
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair cabling systems and equipment in IP Video, Access Control/Intrusion Alarm/LAN/WAN infrastructure, and wireless LAN.
- Run low voltage cabling in commercial buildings, including drilling concrete walls and performing limited conduit bending.
- Complete all wiring, connections/terminations, and equipment installations to ensure systems meet customer and contractual needs.
- Install, repair, or upgrade fire alarm systems and program control panels using building plans and electrical layouts.
- Mount sensors at appropriate locations, performing tasks like drilling for cabling and accessing crawlspaces or attics.
- Ensure all work complies with electrical and fire codes.
- Test newly installed fire alarm systems and components to ensure operational status.
- Adhere to all project safety requirements set by Wachter, customers, and OSHA.
- Collaborate with the Installation Team Lead or Project Manager on work schedules and equipment delivery.
- Troubleshoot new installations for proper function and compliance with local, county, state, or federal codes.
What We're Looking For
- Field installation experience in security environments: Fire Alarm / Intrusion / Access Control.
- Current/valid state-required Physical Security license and/or Life Safety license.
- Knowledge of NFPA standards, including NFPA 70 and 72.
- Work schedule primarily 8 am to 5 pm, with some night shifts required.
- Willingness to work at heights of 20’-60’ on lifts.
- Experience reading blueprints and site maps.
- Ability to assist with pre-installation design and planning of technical solutions.
- Perform new installs and provide on-site and remote technical escalation support.
- Excellent customer relationship, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Possession of basic PPE and reliable transportation during training before a company vehicle is issued.
- Proficiency with computer/laptop/smartphone, email, spreadsheets, and ability to learn internal systems.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; no DUI or DWI in the last three years.
Nice to Have
- NICET certification.
- Experience with multiple Intrusion/Access system manufacturers.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
