Alantra’s Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is seeking an Analyst for its Bank Ratings & Capital Advisory (RAC) team in London. You will support senior bankers in expanding the team’s track record in advising global banks on balance sheet and capital management, interactions with credit rating agencies, and solutions to strengthen credit profiles. This is a technically demanding role that requires a strong understanding of bank balance sheets, regulatory capital metrics, and rating agency methodologies.
What You'll Do
- Support existing (retained) advisory mandates and new business development, including creating pitch materials.
- Analyze rating agency methodologies (S&P, Moody’s, and Fitch) to assess rating sensitivities and notching implications.
- Perform detailed analysis of bank financial statements, including asset quality, capital, leverage, funding, and liquidity metrics under rating agency frameworks.
- Model capital and funding scenarios, including the issuance impact on CET1, AT1, Tier 2 and MREL/TLAC positioning.
- Prepare client materials, briefing notes, and analytical memoranda for internal and external use.
- Monitor regulatory and rating agency developments (EBA, ECB, PRA) and assess their implications for clients’ ratings.
What We're Looking For
- 1–3 years’ experience in one or more of the following: rating agency (bank ratings team), FIG investment banking, bank treasury or capital management, or financial institutions audit or advisory.
- A strong academic background in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Advanced financial modelling and Excel skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of a bank’s balance sheet, P&L, and corresponding interactions, including asset risk, profitability, capital positioning, funding, liquidity, and off-balance sheet exposures.
- A strong grasp of regulatory capital metrics (CET1, Tier 1, Total Capital, leverage ratio, RWAs) and funding metrics (LCR, NSFR).
- High attention to detail and strong analytical discipline.
- Clear and concise communication skills suited to senior-level client interaction.
Nice to Have
- An accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) or in progress.
- An FCA qualification or relevant regulatory certification.
- Direct experience within a rating agency covering banks.
- A background in audit or accounting with exposure to financial institutions.
Team & Environment
You will join the Bank Ratings & Capital Advisory (RAC) team, which is part of Alantra’s broader Financial Institutions Group (FIG). You will report directly to and support senior bankers.
