Merck is hiring a Field Sales Development Representative to support our Companion Animal business. In this dynamic field-based role, you will temporarily reside in and move between vacant territories across the United States to engage directly with customers, build relationships, and deliver solutions that support animal health. You'll work closely with a Regional Manager to achieve sales goals and execute customer strategies.
What You'll Do
- Quickly build rapport with key customers, including distribution partners, to provide immediate impact in covering vacant territories.
- Communicate product information in a way that is meaningful and relevant to each individual customer; tailor discussions based on customer needs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customers, scheduling meetings with key decision makers to understand their practice structure and business opportunities.
- Develop customer strategies that define interaction plans and solutions, resulting in sales opportunities and growth.
- Create territory and account plans for key customers, partnering with National Account Managers and Distribution Partners to maintain focus on key accounts.
- Share learnings and best practices across customers and collaborate with team members to support growth and development.
- Analyze monthly sales results and manage expenses within budget guidelines.
- Identify and select company programs and services that address customer needs and provide education and training opportunities.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Commercial Operations, and Professional Services Veterinarians to develop and deliver customer offerings.
- Maintain a current understanding of our animal health products, industry trends, competitor landscape, and network structures; share relevant insights with stakeholders.
- Effectively articulate and communicate relevant customer, industry, product, and market trends within the organization.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree (4-year college degree preferred but not required) or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% nationally.
Nice to Have
- Documented sales experience.
- Experience selling animal health products and services through veterinary and/or shelter channels.
- Knowledge of biological/medical products and ability to engage in dialogue with medical professionals.
- Understanding of the role of distribution partners and/or prior experience working with distribution.
- Ability and willingness to relocate for future career growth.
